The NRA Wants “War” Against Animal Advocates….Bring it On

When not shilling for money on the backs of ruthlessly murdered grade school children or giving dystopian filled fear mongering speeches about the dangers of the “left wing” to “real” Americans, the gun industry/far right front group, the National Rifle Association (NRA), has decided to “declare war” against animal advocates.

From the article:

The gun group is rolling out a new ad campaign geared toward hunters, a segment of firearm owners whose concerns have been eclipsed as the NRA transformed into a political powerhouse and threw its weight behind fights over self-defense and access to weapons. To sway its audience, the NRA is deploying its favorite tactic. It is trying to scare them.

“To save hunting, you must understand the terms of the battle,” a landing page for the campaign reads. “Because the animal rights extremists fighting to destroy hunting have an even more destructive goal: the systematic diminishment of humanity itself.”

The ad campaign consists of 10 videos paired with essays, featuring appearances and bylines by notable hunters and outdoorsmen like David Draper, a well-known writer for Field & Stream magazine. Put together, the package paints a picture of a world where hunting is under threat by animal rights activists.

I find it quite amazing how one minute killing cartels like the NRA and their members label animal advocates as “bunny huggers” or “snowflakes” while in the next breath compare us to terrorists like Al Qaeda.

From the article:

The NRA handed off Weaver’s hunting outreach duties to Josh Powell, now the national spokesman for NRA Hunting, who is not shy about being political.

“We are in the middle of a war,” he says in one of the campaign’s videos, before comparing tangling with organizations like People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Humane Society to “dealing with Al Qaeda.”

I can’t name any wildlife advocates that affiliate with PETA and even fewer that agree with their belief system. Actually it seems to me that the NRA and the famous chickenhawks that lead them or sit on their board are once again using fear and division to raise money. This kind of inflammatory rhetoric and calls for “war” against animal advocates may very well raise a lot of money but not in the way that they think. Calling millions of people “terrorists” and comparing them to international terror outfits hasn’t worked to well for other far right zealots, has it? In fact, as a veteran, I have a real problem with an organization with cowardly draft dodgers at the helm calling myself and others in the animal advocacy movement “terrorists.”

We are not the ones using FEAR to raise money. We are not the ones using FEAR to pass anti-free speech laws at the behest of “affiliate groups.” We are not the ones using FEAR to push for the eradication of imperiled predator species like wolves and grizzlies in Congress and through the courts. We aren’t the ones using FEAR to make every rube believe that over the last eight years the “scary black man” in the White House was going to knock on your door and take your precious guns. Instilling FEAR is a component of TERROR thus leading to terrorism. Terrorism is a tactic most often used to achieve political gain. Remind me again who look like the REAL “terrorists” here? It sure isn’t the millions of animal advocates. Could it instead be the behemoth gun industry/far right front group that uses FEAR to rake in the dollars?

Pot meet kettle NRA. It’s actually quite pathetic that these big tough, rugged, and “patriotic” Americans are so scared of the little snowflake bunny huggers like myself and the millions of other animal advocates. I guess they better just go buy more guns………

Another Mass Shooting: When Did the Constitution Become a Suicide Pact?

M-16 rifle “family.”

Another week and another mass shooting. Another loser with unlimited access to numerous weapons destroys the lives of dozens of people in a matter of seconds. Why? We keep hearing some politicians clamoring for “solutions” while others continue to pander to the sick gun culture that permeates our society. As I have stated before I am a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve, have worked in the law enforcement field for almost half of my life, and own a firearm for home protections. Guns do not scare me. The people that fetishize and worship the gun are what scares me. The idea that “nothing” can prevent these senseless murders is even more horrifying. Take this from Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson:

Republican Sen. Ron Johnson, speaking after a tour of a Madison manufacturer, called for a “thoughtful” discussion on the issue but said he wasn’t sure anything could be done to prevent the shootings.

“I’m not sure, I have my doubts,” Johnson said. “Take a look right now at background checks. We have them in place and so many of these tragedies, the laws we have put in place haven’t prevented them.”

Of course “nothing” can ever be done to prevent these mass murders when you worship at the altar of gun fetishism and are a tool of the gun industry front groups, right Ro Jo?There is plenty that can be done if Americans would stop pretending that the Constitution is a suicide pact that cannot be adapted for the times that we live in. The Second Amendment that is worshipped by the gun fetishists states that there is a right to “keep and bear arms.” It doesn’t say a damn thing about a right to shoot anything and everything and have access to each and every type of firearm imaginable. For gun fetishists this part of the Constitution takes priority over every other part because having access to their killing toys is more important than even the right to live for most Americans. I would wager a bet that the vast majority of gun obsessed Americans also consider themselves “pro-life” yet they seem to have no problem blowing off each and every increasingly frequent instance where LIFE is eradicated in schools, theaters, office buildings, malls, etc., as an “isolated incident.” They are only “pro-life” when it does’t get in the way of their gun worship I would bet.

The way politicians pander to the extreme gun crowd, who are referred to as “ammosexuals” by many on my side of the political spectrum, is for me the most terrifying aspect of the culture of our country. What other supposedly “civilized” country has mass shooting occur almost daily in homes, schools, theaters, malls, and other public gathering places like we do in the United States? After each mass killing the two sides form ranks and repeat the same mantras and then we all revert back to the status quo within a couple of weeks or sooner depending on when the next football “scandal” drops or when the next dude decides that he is a chick to take away media focus from real societal issues.

The status quo is no longer acceptable and those that keep saying that “nothing” can be done can frankly piss off. A select element of our society has turned our Constitution into a suicide pact that allows the weak and cowardly types to use their ownership of guns to intimidate and bully the rest of us. When our streets begin to look like Baghdad or Kabul because some chickenhawk that failed in every aspect of their life decides to strap on an assault rifle and parade around Target or walks into a school and executes children it shows how the gun obsessed element of our society has indeed made the Second Amendment a suicide pact.

We keep hearing about how the “power and influence” of groups like the National Redneck Rifle Association (NRA) prevents Congress and other government institutions from meaningfully tackling gun issues. Why is that? Why do our elected politicians grovel at the feet of an organization led by a typical chickenhawk and that allows convicted poachers and draft dodgers to sit on their “board.” Why are they so terrified of these people? Why do thousands of people have to die each year because of the whims of these people and their “influence?” Why does the general public need to be held hostage by these goons and their “influence?” How many more kids have to be executed by another bowl haircutted loser with easy access to weapons designed only to KILL?

The gun fetishists, not content at perverting the Constitution, even try to change the terminology of what these weapons designed to KILL are used for. During World War Two Nazi Germany designed and fielded what became known as the first “Assault Rifle,” the Sturmgewehr 44. This weapon, translated into English as the “Assault Rifle 44,” is the forefather of every other similar type of weapon strictly designed to KILL on the battlefield. This includes the Russian AK-47American M-16, and the “civilian” equivalent and gun fetishist favorite the AR-15. As is usual with the right wing and killing obsessed groups in the United States, the NRA and similar organizations have sought to sanitize the terminology and convince people that these KILLING implements really aren’t that and are merely ” modern sporting rifles.” You read that right. Weapons designed to be used on the battlefields of Bastogne, Khe Sanh, Mogadishu, Baghdad, Kabul, and a myriad of other battlegrounds since 1944 are merely “modern sporting rifles.” Much like how the killing cartels, the NRA included, sanitize the killing of animals by referring to it as “harvesting,” ASSAULT rifles are now “modern sporting rifles.” This is how the NRA defines the term “assault rifle” because they apparently are now so all powerful that they can even change the meaning of words in the dictionary:

By U.S. Army definition, a selective-fire rifle chambered for a cartridge of intermediate power. If applied to any semi-automatic firearm regardless of its cosmetic similarity to a true assault rifle, the term is incorrect.

Of course the NRA doesn’t tell you why it would be “incorrect” for this term to be applied to these weapons. This is how Merriam-Webster defines an assault rifle:

Full Definition of ASSAULT RIFLE

: any of various automatic or semiautomatic rifles with large capacity magazines designed for military use

The gun fetish groups would like you to believe that the terms like “assault rifle” were constructs of the “liberal media” and that because and AR-15 only looks exactly like an M-16 they are two completely different things. Of course they neglect to mention that these “modern sporting rifles” fire the exact same ammunition, use high capacity magazines, and function EXACTLY the same as their military equivalent minus the ability for full automatic fire. According to gun industry front groups like the “National Shooting Sports Foundation” these weapons are no more powerful than average hunting rifles and gosh darnit “they are a lot of fun to shoot!” So why do most mass shooters choose “modern sporting rifles” or rapid firing pistols to carry out their carnage instead of “traditional hunting rifles” if they are no more powerful or effective at killing?

As I pointed out earlier the term “assault rifle” came from the German designed Sturmgewehr 44. This translated into English means ASSAULT RIFLE 44. Of course history and facts have no bearing when it comes to the propaganda that the gun industry front/gun fetish groups put out. Here is another example from a “fact” sheet put out by the National Shooting Sports Foundation:

AR-15-style rifles are NOT “assault weapons” or “assault rifles.” An assault rifle is fully automatic — a machine gun. Automatic firearms have been severely restricted from civilian ownership since 1934.

Funny, as a veteran I know full well that rifles and machine guns are two entirely different categories. Apparently the chickenhawks that run these gun fetish groups must not. The M-16 is the military version of the AR-15 and it is a RIFLE that is fed ammunition through a magazine. A “machine gun” is larger and is fed ammunition via a “belt.” The M-16, even though capable of fully automatic fire, is labeled by the United States military as a RIFLE and NOT a machine gun. The AR-15, a civilian derivative of the M-16, is also a RIFLE. So if the M-16, even though capable of fully automatic fire, is labeled as a RIFLE one would assume that the AR-15, from the same family, is also a RIFLE? So in other words the capability of fully automatic fire is NOT just restricted to machine guns and it is NOT a defining element as to whether a rifle is considered an “assault rifle.”

The loser cowards that walked into Sandy Hook, Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, Umpqua Community College, and the dozens of other now infamous locales didn’t choose their weapons based on “sporting.” They chose them to be used for what they were designed for: to KILL. That is the same for the pistols and rifles that these cowards used. These weapons were designed to KILL and most were derivatives of weapons designed for military purposes and wartime use.

But what do I know? I only served in the military unlike most of the “leaders” and mouthpieces of these gun fetish groups.

Don’t for one second believe that “nothing” can be done about these mass slaughters and that we somehow have to just “accept” them as being part of American life. There are now more guns than people in this country. When does it become enough? When our streets, schools, mass, theaters, and other public gathering areas resemble Baghdad? Mogadishu? Kabul?

It’s time to stop pretending that the Constitution is a suicide pact and that we just have to accept mass murder as a part of life. We live in a culture of death, death, and more death. When schools aren’t being shot up the great purveyors of the Second Amendment are killing animals to satiate that sick American bloodlust.

Great purveyor of the Second Amendment. Be proud 'Murica. Photo used via Fair Use.

Great purveyor of the Second Amendment. Be proud ‘Murica. Photo used via Fair Use.

We are indeed a culture of death and those that fetishize over it always prey on the weak, be it animal or human. I am ashamed to share the same nationality and species as the thing above. Isn’t America great? Mass shootings, mass slaughter of animals, bombing hospitals, and on and on and on. If we continue to use our Constitution and the perverted notion of “American Exceptionalism” as an excuse for killing the innocent in our own borders and exporting that killing to other locales than we are no better than the monsters we are fighting against.

Shame on you America and your sick death fetish.

Earth Day: Wisconsin Style

How sane people see Earth Day

How sane people celebrate Earth Day

Yesterday, April 22nd, was a day known as Earth Day. Earth Day, ironically enough, was started in 1970 by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson. In fact Wisconsin was once know for producing some of the most famous and most quoted naturalists and “conservationists” the world has ever seen. John Muir and Aldo Leopold are just two examples of these forward thinking individuals that influenced generations to come.

But in 2015 Wisconsin John Muir and Aldo Leopold have apparently been pushed aside in favor of Ted Nugent and the Koch Brothers. Why do I say this? Yesterday, apparently in “celebration” of Earth Day, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources decided to issue 57 scientists and staff lay off notifications. While cutting the last vestiges of science from the industry/trophy hunter pandering DNR should be upsetting on any day, to do it on Earth Day sends a particularly offensive and disgusting message to anyone that cares about wildlife or our wild lands. While jet setting all over the world with the hopes of taking the Koch-fueled modern incarnation of fascism to the national level, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has made it abundantly clear that our wildlife and wild lands are for sale to anyone that supports him monetarily. Walker even stooped so low as to consider appointing the lobbyist for the very mining company that funneled $700,000 through dark money channels to his campaign to the “number two” position in the Wisconsin DNR. When that pesky thing known as “the law” got in the way, Walker shuffled the lobbyist to the Public Service Commission where he could do almost as much damage to consumers and the environment.

Records show that Walker’s staff was considering Gogebic Taconite lobbyist and spokesman Bob Seitz for the post of deputy secretary of the Department of Natural Resources. He was being considered for the post just before Gogebic announced it was closing its office in northern Wisconsin and stepping away from a proposed $1.5 billion iron ore mine in Ashland and Iron counties.

Seitz ended up getting a different appointment from Walker, with the Public Service Commission.

Remember my warnings about the “foxes in the henhouse?” Walker doesn’t even attempt to hide it anymore.

Walker was also apparently not content stacking the state Natural Resources Board with people like his own campaign advisor and founder of an extremist killing cartel lobbying group, Greg Kazmierski. Walker wanted to completely gut the oversight power of the board. This proposal along with the gutting of the science arm of the DNR should be alarming to people across every facet of the political divide.

How Wisconsin celebrates Earth Day.

How Wisconsin celebrates Earth Day.

More Pandering to Bear Hounders

Surprisingly the bought and paid for Wisconsin Legislature did vote to remove from the current Walker budget the provision to weaken the oversight power of the Natural Resources Board. But the legislature, on Earth Day, also made sure to throw a bone to the bear hounders by further weakening the almost non-existant oversight of their sick “sport.”

The panel unanimously approved allowing people to participate in some aspects of bear hunting without a license.

Class A licenses are required to hunt bears and class B licenses are required to pursue bears. The committee voted to end class B licenses. People would not need licenses to bait bears, train dogs to track bears and assist hunters with tracking bears, provided they were not doing those activities with the purpose of shooting or killing bears.

In other words baiters, hounders, and the other sickos like them can now harass bears with dogs and condition them to human food with ZERO oversight at all. You need to purchase a permit to hike at state parks but hounders and baiters now do not need any type of license to torment our wildlife. It’s bad enough that as each day passes Wisconsin’s reputation for cruelty gets worse, now the pandering and anti-wildlife legislature wants to take away one of the few remaining oversights to monitor hounders and their sick “sport.” Landowners in the north better be prepared because these unethical monsters are going to be even more aggressive with their disdain for property boundaries and laws.

I Guess the Wolves Didn’t Eat all the Deer After all

One of the more ridiculous elements of Walker’s scorched Earth budget was the plan to eliminate funding for the removal of vehicle killed deer from the sides of state highways. While the anti-wolf factions continue to scream that “them thar wolfs is eatin’ all the deer” apparently plenty of deer in the state are finding their way onto roadways and into collisions with motor vehicles.

In each of the past two years, about 23,000 dead deer from the side of Wisconsin highways.

The state Department of Transportation reports that there were nearly 18,000 car-deer collisions in Wisconsin last year. Those accidents resulted in 407 people being injured and nine deaths.

Remind me again how many people wolves killed in Wisconsin last year? I suppose the anti-wolf factions will claim the deer threw themselves in front of vehicles to escape the packs of marauding wolves? But that is a story for another time. Apparently Walker felt perfectly fine with the fact that Wisconsin’s culture of death would be on full display for anyone and every one traveling on our roads. Nothing says “Welcome to Wisconsin” like the bloated and smashed bodies of vehicle killed deer being left on the side of the road through the length of the state. In another surprise the legislature decided to maintain state funding for the removal of vehicle killed deer.

As anti-wildlife as this legislature is even they seem to be realizing that Scott Walker is for Scott Walker and not looking out for the best interest of the state. Of course this is also the same legislature that rubber-stamped every other anti-wildlife, anti-worker, anti-woman, anti-poor, anti-everything proposal that that Walker and their ALEC puppet masters put before them for the past four years so don’t get your hopes up that common sense is returning to Wisconsin.

While the rest of the country celebrated Earth Day by at least pretending to care about the planet and it’s inhabitants, Scott Walker and the Wisconsin Legislature just had to make sure to show the rest of the nation that Wisconsin can be bigger assholes than all of them combined. We should be so proud.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel “Outdoors” Writer Paul Smith on Wisconsin Wolf Slaughter: Nothing to See Here Move Along

The true Wisconsin "sportsmen."

Whenever the Wisconsin DNR starts to get negative feedback or when people start questioning their motives it is a sure bet that the “outdoor” writers for the state newspapers will undoubtedly jump to their defense and get the spin machine rolling. No one is more of a master of this propaganda and spin work than Milwaukee Journal Sentinel “Outdoors” writer, Paul Smith.

In one week 104 wolves have been “reported” killed during Wisconsin’s annual “mad minute” wolf killing/torture spree. The “official” DNR kill count shows 103 wolves killed but a DNR official has admitted that one wolf was killed illegally. Of course that illegally killed wolf does not count against their kill quota. Nice message to send. Poach as many wolves as you want and you may or may not (likely not) get caught and your kills will not count against the slaughter quota. How does this not encourage more poaching?

But poaching is not the concern of Paul Smith or the DNR propaganda being put forth in his latest article. Going double over kill quotas, rampant hate, illegal behavior are not nearly important as keeping tabs on the big bad “anti” presence of the so-called “Wolf Patrol.” While I am still highly dubious of this “patrol” and their motives they seem to have the killers and their propaganda artists concerned. From Smith’s latest article:

Wolves inspire an emotional response in humans, good and bad. The last week has provided ample evidence.

A group called Great Lakes Wolf Patrol set up camp in northern Wisconsin and pledged to “monitor” activities of wolf hunters and trappers. It hopes to find evidence of violations.

The group is led by Rod Coronado, an animal rights activist who was jailed in 1995 in connection with an arson attack on research facilities at Michigan State University.

Of course, patrol members are at high risk of a ticket. State law prohibits interference or harassment of hunters and trappers.

As of Wednesday, the wolf patrol reported no violations that resulted in citations, according to DNR sources. Its members also were not involved in any violent confrontations with the public.

Two patrol members did encounter a trapper in the field and secretly videotaped the exchange. The group posted the video to its Facebook page and YouTube.

The trapper no doubt disappointed the patrol. He was polite, knowledgeable, well-spoken and, from all appearances, legal.

Of course he was. Especially when we have the boogeyman of the “antis” present. Of course Smith then tries to be a “moderate” and point out the pro-poaching comments of Ted Nugent:

Ted Nugent, the musician and outdoor television celebrity, weighed in from the other side.

“Though no state has issued an adequate number of wolf tags, believe when I tell you that certain WE THE PEOPLE in touch caring Americans are killing MANY MANY more wolves than the numbnut corrupt dishonest PC government thugs allow,” Nugent wrote in an Oct. 17 Facebook post. “Kill as many as you can real conservationists. The wolf population is irresponsibly & dangerously out of control. Wolf jackets ROCK!!”

Nugent’s call to violate game laws only hurts the future of hunting.

So Smith makes sure to point out what a bad bad man the “anti” Coronado is but only talks about how “Poopy Pants” Nugent is just a simple little “musician and outdoor television celebrity.” Why not mention that Nugent is a convicted poacher, canned “hunting” pimp, one time target of a Secret Service investigation, draft dodger, and racist? Why no mention of his dark and criminal past, Mr. Smith? Or is that only reserved for the “antis.” You know those “antis” that have just as much right to be in the woods as the great white hunter? Nugent’s advocating of poaching is worthy of one sentence while Coronado’s criminal past is multi-paragraph worthy? I wouldn’t expect anything less from Mr. Smith.

Then he hits us with this;

The threats, gimmicks and spouting off at the mouth will fade soon enough. The DNR will do its best to keep the wolf kill close to its 2014 quota.

I seem to remember Smith and other pro-killing DNR mouthpieces saying the same thing when the first wolf slaughter season occurred in 2012. The “Outdoors” writers all claimed that us “antis” would just accept the wolf slaughter and go away just as many on the pro-wildlife side did after Wisconsin instituted the yearly slaughter of the state symbol of peace, the mourning dove. Well we haven’t gone away nor will we as long as Wisconsin continues to make a mockery of wildlife “management” and condones the most brutal and barbaric methods of killing wolves and other wildlife. Of course the kill everything DNR propaganda conduits like Mr. Smith are not going anywhere either. Here Smith pretends that the DNR actually cares about “science” when talking about the DNR’s new “wolf management plan.”

And hopefully it will ignore the distractions and use the best available science to guide the next, most important aspect of Wisconsin wolf management — the 2015 wolf management plan. A preliminary draft of the plan is due in December, with public hearings likely to start in January.

I wonder why Smith doesn’t talk about the vitriol that he was present for at the Wolf Advisory Committee meetings from the extreme anti-wolf groups? Numerous wildlife advocates saw Smith at these meetings and he clearly witnessed the anti-wolf hate and extremism in display on the part of representatives from the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation, Wisconsin Bear Hunters Association, and other extremist anti-wolf groups. Why not write an article about that Mr. Smith? Why instead focus on activists that by your own admission have done nothing illegal?

I am not holding my breath that he will say one word about the anti-wolf extremists behavior at these meeting or report on the how reckless the DNR has been with their “management” of wolves. Nothing to see here. Move along………..

USFWS Great Lakes Wolf Report

The USFWS recently released a very interesting report about the status of wolves in the Great Lakes. Of note were some very concerning comments about Wisconsin’s wolf “management.”

“The low end of population estimates for Michigan and Wisconsin
– 594 and 660, respectively (1,254 combined) – remained well above the numbers that might cause concern at the individual state level (100) or collectively (200); we expect further declines in the numbers of wolves in Wisconsin, however, unless levels of human caused mortality are reduced.”

“If human caused mortality from other sources (depredation control, illegal take, etc.) reflects levels detected in 2013-2014 in Wisconsin, total human caused mortality may take at least 38% of wolves in the state based on the winter 2013-2014 population estimate of 660. Therefore, we expect a continued decline in the number of wolves in Wisconsin and will evaluate the status of wolves there in the next annual post-delisting monitoring report. In next year’s report we will also be able to review the effects of the 2014-2015 hunting and trapping season and changes in regulations that affect the use of dogs to trail wolves outside of hunting seasons on the numbers of wolves in Wisconsin.”

The USFWS under the Obama Administration is no friend to the gray wolf, or any wildlife for that matter but no matter what they say in public Wisconsin’s reckless slaughter season and legalized dog fighting have to be a major concern. We will be paying attention and keep you informed.

Please keep the pressure on the Wisconsin DNR and speak out against their reckless and brutal wolf slaughter. Apparently they have received so many complaints and outraged call that a special phone line was set up.

Pant Crapping Draft Dodger and Convicted Poacher Ted Nugent Advocates Poaching of Wolves

Screen Shot 2014-10-18 at 1.48.52 PM

I will let the words of this washed up draft dodging musician turned racist rightwing blowhard and convicted poacher speak for themselves:

Ted Nugent

WISCONSIN Spirit BloodBrothers the Weisner family trapped this stunning wolf. Though no state has issued an adeqaute number of wolf tags, believe when I tell you that certain WE THE PEOPLE in touch caring Americans are killing MANY MANY more wolves than the numbnut corrupt dishonest PC government thugs allow. Kill as many as you can real conservationists. The wolf population is irresponsibly & dangerously out of control. Wolf jackets ROCK!!

I guess threatening the president and being a convicted poacher are not enough for this pant crapping blowhard. He still apparently does not understand that poaching is against the law. Your 15 minutes of fame ended about 40 years ago, Ted. We are still ready to take you up on your offer, or did you crap your pants again in anticipation of that?
